After the restoration of independence and membership to NATO, there’s the third major goal before Montenegro – EU membership. The European Parliament rapporteur for Montenegro, Marjan Šarec, says all political parties should strive to achieve that goal, seeing the recently presented Barometer 26 project as a good platform. The Chair of the EU-Montenegro stabilization and association parliamentary committee, Tomas Waitz, also points out that this can be a very good mechanism to ensure that all legislation important for progress in EU integration is passed with broad support in the parliament – the public broadcaster TVCG reported.
Montenegro has set an ambitious goal – EU membership by 2028, and it’s important now to work hard on it, says the EP rapporteur for Montenegro, Marjan Šarec. He also notes that the Barometer 26 platform is conceived as an initiative that should gather all political groups around the same task.
The Chair of European Parliament’s Delegation to EU-Montenegro Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee, Tomas Waitz, also believes this initiative is an opportunity for speeding up EU integration.
“It can be a very good mechanism for ensuring that the legislation is timely adopted, with broad support of the parliament. It’d be useful, in order to ensure Montenegro’s accession to the EU by 2028 at the latest.”
