However, around 15.000 citizens remain in possession of their old ID cards, meaning they cannot vote in elections or exercise any right for which this document is needed, reports Anadolu Agency.
According to the Law on Identity Cards, outdated identity cards could be used until December 31st 2012.
Montenegrin citizens with biometric ID cards can enter Serbia, Macedonia, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina without a passport.
Since the beginning of issuance of passports under the new regulations, citizens of Montenegro have been issued a total of 421.977 biometric passports, which can be used to travel to 104 countries without visas.
Data also show that there are 198.539 individuals and legal entities in Montenegro with a registered vehicle. Of these, 126.202 private individuals are owners of 165.835 vehicles.
A valid driver’s license in Montenegro is owned by 263.534 persons.
