In a statement for the CdM portal regarding a public feud between the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development, Nik Gjeloshaj, the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CEDEM) has called on both sides to exercise restraint, engage in institutional dialogue, and uphold a culture of public communication.
CEDEM is closely monitoring the public appearances and communication of government representatives, including this, what they describe as a worrying conflict in the public sphere.
“This kind of rhetoric and public feud indicate deep disagreements within the ruling coalition, which further burden political stability and polarize the public,” CEDEM has stated.
They warn that all of this simultaneously points to serious weaknesses in political coordination within the government.
The Podgorica Basic State Prosecutor’s Office has opened a case following the complaint by the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, claiming that the Deputy Prime Minister, Nik Gjeljoshaj threatened him.
