Speaking at the Institute for Geopolitics, Economics and Security in Sarajevo, former Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic addressed the topic “Is a multipolar world possible?“, stating that the era of a single global superpower is over. He emphasized the irreversible interconnectedness brought by globalisation and expressed hope that the U.S. might support balanced global power, ideally through the EU.

More than multipolarity itself, Djukanovic is concerned about whether the emerging world order will be rule-based. He highlighted the importance of the Western Balkans’ place in this new landscape, calling the region a historical “sensor” of global power shifts.

He ended by referencing Nelson Mandela’s quote: “Everything always seems impossible until it’s done.”
