The leadership of the Democratic People’s Party (DNP) announced that its ministers will raise initiatives at the next government session on constitutional and legal changes related to the Serbian language, citizenship, state symbols, and opening dialogue on the wastewater treatment plant project in Zeta. If these initiatives are not supported, DNP ministers will resign, and the party will withdraw its support from Prime Minister Milojko Spajic’s government, as well as from the ruling coalition in Podgorica.
DNP has tasked its ministers Milun Zogovic and Maja Vukicevic with initiating constitutional changes to recognise Serbian as an official language, amendments to the citizenship law, changes to the law on state symbols to recognise the tricolour as a national flag, and a comprehensive dialogue respecting the outcome of the 14 December 2025 referendum in Zeta on the wastewater plant project.
The party said coalition partners have repeatedly rejected these initiatives and accused the government of discriminating against the linguistic majority and ignoring the rights of people with ties to Serbia. DNP also strongly condemned a recent police operation in Zeta, calling it unjustified repression of peaceful citizens, and criticised the failure of talks with Prime Minister Spajic to resolve the crisis.
Emphasising that it will not compromise on its ideological and programmatic principles, DNP stated it is ready to leave the government if its demands are rejected, insisting it is in power to defend voters’ interests rather than hold office.
