Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development Nik Gjeloshaj has been found guilty in two first-instance court rulings—one for defaming journalist Danilo Ajkovic and another for mobbing Kristijan Dukaj, a former public relations advisor. Despite these decisions, Gjeloshaj denies any wrongdoing, accuses the media of false reporting, and threatens legal action against journalists, claiming there is no final verdict against him.
Lawyer Veselin Radulovic criticised Gjeloshaj’s reaction, stating that even non-final judgments are serious and raise questions about his fitness for public office. He emphasised that Gjeloshaj’s attacks on journalists and inappropriate conduct toward staff reflect deeper issues of moral and political accountability. Radulovic added that he does not expect any government response, citing a broader pattern of ignoring ministerial misconduct.
Artan Cobi, head of the Albanian Forum caucus, defended Gjeloshaj and accused the media of ethnic bias and attempting to influence ongoing legal proceedings by reporting on non-final judgments. He suggested that anti-Albanian sentiment motivated the media coverage.
The Media Union of Montenegro strongly condemned Gjeloshaj’s actions, calling them irresponsible and directly harmful. They warned that his behaviour, including continued accusations against the media despite court rulings, normalises attacks on journalists and undermines public trust in institutions. They called on all public officials to respect court decisions and refrain from targeting the press.
If the rulings become final, Gjeloshaj and the Municipality of Tuzi could be liable for over €6,000 in damages and legal costs.
