Montenegro will suffer serious damage if, due to political exaggerations and calculations, it misses the current moment in European integration and the support it receives from international partners along the way, says Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorcevic.
In an interview for the MINA agency, she has said that the EU expects much more commitment, dialogue and effort from Montenegro and that it is time for Montenegrin politicians to show greater maturity.
Commenting on the blockade of the parliament by the opposition, Gorcevic has stressed that the events in Parliament were not encouraging and that she hoped that it would not last long.
Gorcevic has recalled that in previous years she always spoke highly of the relationship between the parliamentary majority and the opposition and that the opposition parties in Parliament supported the country’s EU path.
She has pointed out that there is no blockade of the Constitutional Court, but that the opposition has decided to block and obstruct the work of Parliament for certain reasons.
She has called on the opposition to be constructive, because Montenegro has never been closer to joining the EU and now most of the reforms should be carried out.
Asked how the agreement on the formation of the government in Podgorica, made up of former party colleagues – Europe Now Movement (PES) and the Movement for Podgorica, will affect the relationship between the parliamentary majority and the Government with the President Jakov Milatovic, Gorcevic has replied that she believes it will be the basis for new cooperation both at the local and state levels.
She believes that in the coming period President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic, PM Milojko Spajic and Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandic will have better cooperation.
