Winston Churchill was drinking his first whiskey at 9 am. It was Johnnie Walker Red Label. He would pour soda into his whiskey (a disgusting, inexcusable habit that, with all due respect to Churchill, cannot be tolerated) and light a cigar, a Cuban.
Britain is clearly a serious country, which takes care of its tradition, including its essential aspects, such as Churchill’s alcoholic routine. Which is well documented. The testimonies of the people who brought glasses and bottles to his room and office have been preserved; his handwritten instructions on what and when to serve him have also been saved.
Thanks to that, we know that Churchill would drink his second whiskey (again with soda; he always drank it with soda) at 10 am. The day began and ended with whiskey. Before going to sleep, he would retire to his office and there, alone with Johnnie, would make the most difficult decisions.
Yes: he was slowly sipping whiskey and soda all day long. He cut the whiskey with surgical precision, always at the same time, with sherry and cognac. And champagne. Which, actually – champagne and not whiskey – was his favorite drink. A bottle with lunch, a bottle with dinner. Three bottles of whiskey and cognac a week. Plus, cigars: lots of cigars.
He died aged 90.
I think of Churchill whenever I read headlines like: “A man was driving with blood-alcohol level at 3.14” on the portals.
And what can I tell you: with so much alcohol in his blood, Churchill led the country through the Second World War and won the biggest slaughter in history.
Today, of course, his drinking habits would be a problem. Today, Finns are excited and offended (oh, how easily offended today’s man is) because their prime minister is dancing. The woman is dancing. Fuck. Instead of going to a party, she should have gone to a vegan, fair trade restaurant with a gay friend who had just adopted a child from Kenya – and everything would have been fine. You know those idiotic stories: she receives taxpayers’ money, and instead of working, she dances and thus humiliates the office and the country she represents. Churchill would be absolutely unacceptable.
Therefore, there are no Churchills nowadays: only gray mediocrity, wherever you look. That’s why today Putin is giving a kick in the pants to the complete European metamediocrity political elite, which knows nothing about their own shortcomings. While at the same time, he bribed the rest.
Just look at what they are doing in Montenegro. Either a small mind or evil intentions: there’s no other thing. First, they subtly helped the clerical counter-revolution and brought the Church of Serbia to power. So that they would then thrash out something in the European Parliament about how that church is a means of Russian influence in the region. Is that so? And it wasn’t the case in 2020, when you helped it ruin Montenegro? Because the fight against corruption is the most important…
And where has the fight against corruption brought us? To the point that instead of privatized judiciary and police we have privatized judiciary and police, only the owner is new. What’s really essential, not essential, but a revolutionary change.
It led us to the fact that the man who was recorded buying votes in Ulcinj – which was accepted as the most normal thing in this world – was appointed a minister. That a man who attempted murder twice was given control of the secret service. We got ministers selling themselves for television. Admittedly a large television. We got a prime minister whom the leaders of crime gangs love like a brother. We got a government which carried out the biggest robbery in the history of Montenegro – the “Fundamental Agreement”. And nothing happened. I repeat. No one’s taking responsibility for that.
It’s not about that “these new people steal more than the DPS”. It’s simply not true, it’s not possible in a physical sense. You cannot steal in two years as much as you can for 30.
No. This is about the fact that, following the fight against corruption of the former regime, corruption of the current one has been completely normalised and legalized.
You know what I mean: corruption is when the old crew steal. When new people do it, then it’s the fight against corruption. In order to curb countless wrongdoings of the DPS, it was necessary to let new people in power steal a little bit. In order to be able to function, Churchill needed several bottles of booze. In order to get our new people in power available to work, they need to shoot someone or steal something.
Strange are the ways of democracy, nothing less than those of God.
