Katnić was in the US from October 30th to November 7th, at the invitation of the country’s Embassy in Podgorica.
SSP Office said for Dnevne Novine this was an educational visit that included training and exchange of practical experience on the implementation of prosecutorial investigation, killings linked to organized crime, and standard murder investigations.
In addition, says SSP, the visit was used to discuss cooperation between the Prosecutor’s Office and the police, and the international cooperation with the United States.
“During his visit to Washington, Chief Special Prosecutor had a meeting with James Walsh, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), Hoyt Brian Yee, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs and Markus W. Bush from the Office of International Legal Assistance withing the US Department of Justice. The meetings discussed issues of international cooperation with the United States in investigations”, SSP Office wrote in their formal answer submitted to Dnevne Novine daily.
On the basis of international legal assistance, US judicial authorities forwarded to their counterparts in Montenegro all documentation for the “Telekom” case. The investigation in this case was launched in late 2011, after US authorities said they have found evidence of corruption during the privatization of this company in Montenegro.
US authorities have established that Magyar Telekom in the purchase of Telecom bribed several Montenegrin officials with a total of 7.35 million euros.
