Prime Minister Dusko Markovic is convinced that the candidate of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), regardless who he/she was, will win the presidential election.
The DPS decision making bodies will soon decide on the candidate.
“These days we will have it on the agenda. In any case, DPS’s candidate will certainly win, regardless who he/she was. I even believe that will happen in the first round,” Markovic told reporters in Bijelo Polje.
Presidential elections are scheduled for 15 April. It is still unknown how many candidates will enter the race to succeed Filip Vujanovic.
When it comes to DPS, there are speculations that the party has two options – leader Milo Djukanovic and Milica Pejanovic-Djurisic.
It’s clear to everyone that there will be no common opposition candidate. Civic opposition did not have a joint position on this issue. Its representatives did not want to discuss the matter with Democratic Front (DF).
The leader of the Democrats Aleksa Becic seems to be likely candidate. If Becic enters the race, some of the party leaders of the civic opposition have announced that they will have their candidates. This was announced earlier by the leaders of SNP and United Montenegro Vladimir Jokovic and Goran Danilovic.
The founder of the True Montenegro, Marko Milacic, may also run for president. According to CEDEM’s survey, he has 16.8% support.
DF has announced that it wants to nominate a non-partisan figure. Andrija Jovicevic has been mentioned as the most likely candidate for that position.
Entrepreneur Vasilije Milickovic said he would run for the presidential post and that his victory would mean the end of partitocracy.
A part of the activists of the civil sector, as well as the social media users, consider professor Djordjije Blazic as a desirable presidential candidate.
A group of citizens gathered around the organization Biro Nerada (Unemployment Agency) started collecting signatures for the candidacy of Ranko Crni Djurisic.
Scientist Dragan Hajdukovic announced that he would run for the president of Montenegro.
