In the context of the future Montenegro’s position in NATO, there won’t be a possibility to change the foreign policy priorities, hesitate or question the foreign policy course, assessed the full professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Belgrade, Mr Dragan Đukanović.
He took part at the regional online conference “Montenegro and NATO: Three years since full membership”, organized by the NGO ‘Sociological Center of Montenegro – SOCEN, and noted Montenegro’s NATO membership represented its identity issue.
“The Army of Montenegro guarantees the safety in country, while NATO membership as well as Article 5 of the Washington Agreement ensure collective security,” Colonel Velibor Bakrač noted.
In addition to the basic benefit, as he stated, NATO membership ensured the sovereignty and security of Montenegrin airspace.
Mr Srđan Darmanović, a full professor at the University of Montenegro, pointed out that it was necessary for NATO to have clearer position towards policies pursued by the governing structures in the Western Balkans.
Interested students from various parts of Montenegro attended the conference, as well as representatives of the civic society, decision makers, and they all had the opportunity to present their views and get answers on certain questions from experts in this area.
Speakers of the Conference were, among others, Mr Ivan Jovetić of the Institute for Strategic Studies and Prognoses, Mr Nikola Banićević of the University Donja Gorica, as well as representatives of the NGOs dealing with the security area, Mr Marko Pejović (CEDEM) and Mr Miloš Perović (ALFA Center).
