According to the proposal that the Montenegrin Ministry of Economy submitted yesterday to the Parliament, i.e. in line with the proposed amendments to the Law on Protection of Consumers, water and electricity distributors soon won’t be able to cut power to a household for unpaid bills until the matter is resolved in a court or administrative procedure and while a consumer is regularly paying other, indisputable bills.
This primarily refers to the electricity bills, water bills and utility bills older than two years that a distributor will have to show separately on every bill after the proposed amendments are adopted. Therefore, if a citizen has an unpaid bill before mid-2017, the Electric Power Company of Montenegro, EPCG, and local waterworks agencies may file a suit to the basic court and they [EPCG/ local waterworks agencies] won’t be able to switch off power to a consumer until the court decides on the matter.
Montenegro citizens, that is, the power consumers, for years have mostly been complaining about turning off power from the grid.
