Montenegro’s Police Directorate will introduce modern radar systems for speed enforcement alongside its existing use of drones, with the devices to be deployed at various locations across the country. The new system will automatically detect speeding without requiring police officers to be physically present or stopping vehicles.
The TrueCam 2 radar systems will measure vehicle speeds, record violations and document them with photographs and video. They will also record vehicle details, including licence plates, make and model. Police officers will monitor the systems remotely through an online connection and will have immediate electronic access to the recorded data for verification and further action.
Because the radars will not be easily visible to drivers, motorists will not be able to anticipate the controls or avoid having violations recorded. The remote monitoring system will also allow police to respond if someone attempts to damage, remove or interfere with the equipment.
Drivers will be notified of recorded violations either directly by a police patrol or by receiving a notice at their home address. If the vehicle owner was not driving at the time of the offence, they must identify the driver to the police within eight days, in accordance with the law.
The Police Directorate says the new technology is intended not only to detect and punish speeding offences but primarily to improve prevention, reduce serious traffic accidents and make Montenegro’s roads safer.
