The Pension and Disability Insurance Fund saw a €253 million deficit in the first seven months of 2026, which is by 6.35% lower compared to €270.2 million in the same period last year, according to data submitted to Dan daily.
Total revenues reached €482.3 million, up 4.6% year-on-year, while income from pension contributions rose by just over 20% to €229.2 million.
The Fund stated the increase happened mainly due to stronger economic activity, higher employment, rising wages and a solid tourism season. Employment rate went up by 4.9% compared to the same period last year, while wages increased by 2.4%.
The improvement comes despite major contribution cuts introduced in October 2024, when the overall pension contribution rate was reduced from 20.5 to 10%. Employer contributions were abolished, while the employee rate was cut from 15 to 10%.
In July, this institution paid benefits to 132.731 people, including 121.673 beneficiaries from Montenegro and 11.058 abroad.
Montenegro’s average pension stood at €562.03 in July. Nearly 82.000 pensioners received no more than the national average, while 49.794 were paid the statutory minimum pension of €456. A further 15.103 received supplements bringing their payments up to that minimum level.
