Suspended special prosecutor, Saša Čađenović, has received nearly €60.000 in reduced salary payments since being removed from duty in December 2022, Dan daily reports.
Based on the Labor Law, Mr Čađenović is entitled to half of the monthly salary he earned before his suspension while criminal proceedings against him continue. He received more than €12.000 in the first eight months of 2026 alone.
He was suspended after being arrested on suspicion of setting up a criminal organisation and abusing office for the benefit of the Kavač crime gang. Prosecutors also allege he belonged to a criminal group involving former senior police official, Zoran Lazovic, and former chief special prosecutor, Milivoje Katnić. All three denied the allegations.
Former special prosecutor, Lidija Mitrović, also received reduced salary payments while suspended. She collected around €34.000 between June 2023 and her dismissal in June 2025, after her conviction for abuse of office became final. Ms Mitrović is currently a fugitive and is wanted by the authorities.
