The Adviser to the Ombudsman of Ukraine, Julija Dainarovic, met with Montenegro’s Ombudsman Sinisa Bjekovic to discuss the position of Ukrainian citizens in Montenegro, the exercise of their rights and issues affecting their everyday lives.
Bjekovic presented the Ombudsman institution’s powers and procedures, stressing that anyone in Montenegro, regardless of citizenship or personal status, can seek its assistance if they believe their rights have been violated or they have been discriminated against.
Dainarovic particularly raised access to rights in schools, healthcare institutions and state bodies, as well as the need for clear and accessible information about procedures.
The meeting also addressed education for Ukrainian children, especially support for learning Montenegrin through free language classes, as well as practical issues such as healthcare, vehicle inspections and access to court interpreters.
Special attention was given to Ukrainians granted temporary protection in Montenegro, currently valid until March 2027, and to the EU agreement to extend temporary protection for displaced Ukrainians until March 2028.
The two institutions agreed on the importance of keeping human-rights protection accessible and continuing cooperation and the exchange of experience so that Ukrainian citizens in Montenegro can exercise their rights as simply and efficiently as possible.
